She volunteers for SMART Reading — and because one writes what one reads, Ellen is also a published author and illustrator of children’s books.
Before moving to Eugene, Ellen owned and operated a bed and breakfast business in Ashland, Oregon for 18 years. During that time, she was active in the business community, as a member of the Ashland B&B Network, and a founding member of Ashland Lodging Association. Prior to inn keeping, Ellen had a career in high tech in various Silicon Valley companies. Ellen holds a MS in Cybernetic Systems, BA in Physical Anthropology, and a Diploma of French Language and Culture from Institut Catholique de Paris.

Ling Ling Zhu, Treasurer

Before she was an agent, she worked in leasing apartments and marketing. After joining Women’s Gift, she wants to continue to be involved in this amazing community.

Alyson Kuhn, Secretary

Alyson arrived in Eugene in 2023. She has been a freelance writer for over 20 years and continues to work with two non-profits in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Koret Foundation and Heart to Heart Global Cardiac Care. She also writes about paper and printing, art and design, including the text for two exhibitions at the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum.
Alyson is the co-author, with gerontologist Jane Mahakian, of “I hear you: Talking and listening to people with Alzheimer’s.” At the heart of the book are eleven vignettes, including four personal accounts of Alyson’s experiences with her mother.
A native San Franciscan, Alyson served on the boards of the San Francisco Center for the Book, where she also co-curated three exhibitions, and the local chapter of the AIGA (The Professional Association for Design). She received the prestigious AIGA Fellow award in 2015 for her stewardship of the chapter’s philatelic alphabet project.
Alyson delights in talking about sending mail and expressing gratitude—in person, in print, and via Zoom. She loves to play word games, and is thrilled to have made so many “wordy friends” in Eugene.

Marty Moran, Director

Marty grew up in the Northeast where she began her career in broadcast media working in Providence, Boston, and New Haven. A career opportunity prompted a move to Houston where she met and married her late husband. With 3 children (Elliott, John and Erin) in tow, Marty took a 7 year sabbatical leaving the city with Warren in favor of country life including, horses, cows, chickens, and hunting dogs in Spicewood, TX, a town of about 250 people. The next move brought the Moran family to Eugene where Marty resumed her sales/management media career with a group of local radio stations. Marty worked for KDUK, KFLY, KODZ(KOOL) and KPNW for 20 years before retiring. When not working, Marty was active in the community: volunteering in the schools, hosting international guests, and helping a number of non-profits as well as enjoying outdoor life. Being a member of Women’s Gift has been a unique opportunity to meet an exceptional group of women –- all of whom are dedicated to helping women and children at risk.

Joni Hinton, Director

Joni grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and over the course of a 43 year marriage to husband, Dennis, has lived in 7 states! They have a daughter, Kristie, and son-in-law, Colin, who live in Jacksonville, Florida and a son, Tyler, and daughter-in-law, Blair, who live in Eugene. They moved to Eugene a year ago to be with their first grandchildren and twins, Olympia and Bell!
Before moving to Eugene Joni worked as an Executive Assistant at Southwest Airlines. For many years she was a stay-at-home mom before transitioning to work in real estate in Florida, Illinois, and Texas.
She served as Chairperson of the EA Culture Committee at Southwest. Some of the organizations we supported were Ronald McDonald House, North Texas Food Bank, and In My Shoes, a Housing and Community for Pregnant Women.
Oregon has always held a special place in Joni's heart. She lived in Portland when Dennis worked at the Nike Campus, and when Tyler decided to attend law school at the University of Oregon, they were proud and excited to again have ties to this beautiful state. Eugene is a wonderful city and she looks forward to being involved and supporting our community through Women’s Gift.

Kay Kelly, Director

Kay has been a member of Women's Gift for about 15 years and has enjoyed learning about the extraordinary amount of nonprofits doing great work for women and children in Lane County, as well as meeting with the amazing  group of women in the organization.

Born in California, growing up in south Texas and getting a Bachelor’s degree in nursing in San Antonio, she headed to California. There she married, raised two boys and had a career in nursing before retiring in Oregon with her DH (dear husband).  With career days behind her, she has enjoyed volunteering as a Botanical Garden guide, Smart Reading Program, Master Gardeners and exhibit interpreter at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
